PANJIM: After a brief dry spell, the South West monsoon renewed its vigour, lashing the State on Monday, thereby tipping the total rainfall to over 30 inches during the current monsoon season thus far.
The Indian Meteorological Department Goa observatory has predicted heavy to very heavy showers for Goa over the next 48-hours. Fishermen have also been asked not to venture into the sea for next 24 hours due to rough weather.
“Heavy rainfall would occur at a few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Goa during next 48-hours,” IMD stated. The weather warning for fishermen of South Maharashtra and Goa coast has been issued.
“Wind will be southwesterly speed 45-50kmph temporarily reaching 60 mph in gust/squall. The sea will be rough with southwesterly waves,” Met dept said.
Though the city’s sky scape for the past few days was overcast, heavy rains had eluded the city. On Monday, too, city’s sky remained clouded since early morning. IMD has recorded three inches of rain for the State from Sunday morning till Monday evening, ending 5.30 pm.
What initially was a drizzle, turned into a heavy downpour with almost all parts of the city receiving heavy rainfall by evening. Heavy rains once again brought misery to the city due to poor civic planning and maintenance with almost all the low-lying areas of the city getting inundated.
