MARGAO: A Karnataka native was found dead at an abandoned construction site in Pajifond, Margao, on Saturday. The deceased Kallappa Halin (55), a carpenter, was naked and his left eye had been punctured.
The deceased was living with two other people on the first floor of the site. According to one of the roommates, the deceased had gone to borrow drinking water, after which there was no sign of him. Some of the people in the neighbourhood said that they had heard someone shouting at night from the direction of the building.
The post mortem has revealed the labourer died due to a cardiac arrest, and the police claim that he may have fallen on his face. The police had brought in his close contacts for interrogation, but couldn’t link them or establish any motive behind the crime. They have declared it a natural death and registered a case of unnatural death.
Meanwhile, Herald and HCN have got exclusive footage of the place being used as a gambling den, with money and playing cards clearly visible. Police, however, have denied any illegal activity taking place in the area.
This place in Pajifond has become infamous for the gambling and matka bookies that prowl in the open. The room in which the labourer died was used by gamblers recently, and Herald and HCN have exclusive footage of the same. The gambling has recently shifted to a nearby building. The
death may have happened in a suspicious location and manner, but this has exposed the police of the town and the way they ignore the lawless dens operating in Margao.
There are reports of roulette machines and huge matka cartels operating in the adjoining areas of Kharebandh, about which the police have all the knowledge, but fail to stop the menace.
