MARGAO: Verna Sports Club blanked Navelim Villagers Union 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of 24th All-Goa Super Soccer tournament organized by United Boys Dando-Colva at St John Baptist ground, Benaulim, Tuesday. Verna led 1-0 at the break.

Verna started in their customary fashion and dominated the opening session with their forwards raiding the rival citadel regularly. Their persistent forays materialized in the very second minute when Richard Dias bulged the net off a cross from Roy Almeida.

Spurred by the success, Verna galvanized their attacks and kept their opponents on the back-foot.

At the other end, Navelim Villagers were subdued lot and failed to function as a cohesive unit.

Post resumption, Verna continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.

Verna doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Necidade Moniz slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a well measured cross from Menino Pereira.

With a 2-0 lead, Verna already seemed to have the match in their pocket.

Navelim Villagers failed to pile on the pressure needed to upstage their opponents.
