MARGAO: Smile lit the face of young Ananiya Prabhudessai as she turned out to be the first student to receive the admission form from deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza after a long wait.
Armed with a mark sheet with 75 percentage, Ananiya Prabhudesai was amongst the 444 students who received admission forms on day one of the opening of admissions for the Chowgule higher secondary school. While 360 forms were issued to students for the science stream, 84 forms were issued for students pursuing Arts.
Students, with their parents in tow, had to wait for a long time to lay their hands on the admission forms at the Education Department at Old market. A parent told Herald that she made her presence felt at the education department at around 4 am, while many others came before dawn, with the hope of getting the admission form.
While most of the students seeking admissions for XI science had an average percentage of 70-80 per cent, one girl with a pass percentage of 96 per cent obtained a form for admission for the Arts stream. The Deputy Chief Minister was pleased with the girl’s decision, saying she is indeed choosing a career of her choice.
Deputy Director of Education, Ramkrishna Samant, said June 5 is the last day to issue admission forms, while the students are expected to return back the forms on June 6-7. “We will scrutinise the forms on Monday and display the merit list along with the cut-off percentage on Wednesday and Thursday,” he added.
