MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa got the better of Dempo Sports Club 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of the GFA U-16 North Zone Play Offs held at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
In the early 9th minute, Aman sent a fine pass to Alister Anthony who on making his way past the defenders unleashed a powerful strike which was pushed away by the Dempo keeper only to see the ball travel to Anthony Fernandes whose pinpoint header landed into the far end of the Dempo goal, 1-0.
After some midfield play Sporting doubled the lead in the 38th minute of play from the penalty spot after the referee found Dempo defender guilty of bringing down Sporting’s Dattaraj Gaonkar inside the 18-yard box. Skipper Aman who stepped up to take the kick made no mistake in scoring, 2-0.
Thereon Dempo exerted tremendous pressure to turn around the match in their favour however the much needed goal eluded them till the end.
