PANJIM: The northern-most Pernem taluka, which is largely rural and has modest educational facilities, led the state by securing the highest pass percentage, leaving urban talukas like Salcete, Tiswadi and Bardez behind with an overall pass percentage of 89.11, four percentage points ahead of Salcete which secured an overall pass percentage of 85.87.
Canacona taluka, which had just one examination centre at Canacona town is at the bottom of the list with a pass percentage of 68.07and Mormugao had the second lowest pass percentage of 77.49 per cent.
The pass percentages of other talukas hovered around the 80s with Bicholim recording 82.83, Quepem – 80.73, Bardez – 83.85, Tiswadi and Ponda recording 81.93 and 80.55 respectively.
The talukas of Valpoi, Dharbandora and Sanguem had no examination centres within their jurisdiction with students from Valpoi being allotted the Sanquelim centre, those from Sanguem the Curchorem centre and students from Dharbandora answering at the Ponda centre.
In terms of centres, the Harmal centre in Pernem taluka secured 93.75 pass percentage while Navelim centre, which includes some of the top schools in Margao came in second with 87.03 pass percentage.
MARGAO: Damodar Science Higher Secondary school, Margao achieved cent per cent results, with Daksha Atish Naik passing out with flying colours with 94.16 per cent mark.
Chairman of the school, Pandurang Bhai Naik said of the total 111 students who appeared for the examinations, 73 passed with distinctions, 36 students secured first class and only two students passing in second class.
“This is a big achievement for the science higher secondary school. I attribute the huge success to the efforts of the school principal, Ballikar, teachers and students”, Bhai said.
Incidentally, he recounted that around 63 students had passed with distinction last year and the figure has jumped to 73 this year”, he added.
The first three rankers of the school are Daksha Atish Naik with 94.16 per cent, Aadya Nitish Kerkar with 91.83 per cent and Marizela Justiana Carvalho with 91.67 per cent.
Daksha has scored 98 marks in Mathematics and 95 marks in chemistry and she plans to pursue engineering.
Aadya Kerkar scored 98 marks in physics and Marizela Justiana Carvalho scored 98 marks in biology.
PONDA: Higher secondary schools from Ponda have improved their performance at the HSSC exams compared to the performance of last academic year.
GVM’s HSS scored overall pass percentage of 89.13%, Ravi Naik HSS secured 77.62%, while Ameya HSS, Curti, scored 86 % results.
At GVMs, the passing percentage in various streams was science – 98.26%, commerce -90.90%, arts -79%, vocational electrical technology -91.66%, industrial management -75% and OSS – 100%.
Expressing happiness, GVM’s Principal Anita Bandodkar said the overall results were very good. “This time, boys have changed the trend and one of them is the topper in our higher secondary. Usually, girls used to top the merit list. The determination of our students has made our higher secondary proud,” she added.
Former GVM HSS principal Awadhut Kamat congratulated the students and said he was happy with the overall results of the higher secondary.
In Ameya HSS, vocational stream has scored 100 per cent results, commerce – 84% and arts – 83%. Prachi Jhatar has topped in the merit list of the higher secondary. She was an arts student and scored 83 per cent.
Ameya HSS Principal Flavia Colaco said she is very happy with the results. “In the vocational stream, we have scored 100 per cent and the overall result is good,” she said.
Ravi Naik HSS Principal Vishwas Raikar said he is happy with the results and wished the students the very best to pursue their higher education.
Ravi Naik HSS scored 80.33% in commerce stream, 70 % in arts, 75.76 % in science and 84.91 % in the vocational stream. However the name of the topper at the higher secondary was not disclosed.
