PONDA: Devotees in the Ponda town bid adieu to Lord Ganesh with a gharane (prayer) to eliminate the COVID pandemic at the earliest.
Most idols were immersed in the evening after the one-and-a-half day’s celebration in the town as the people practised social distancing.
It is tradition that each Goan household offers gharane to Lord Ganesh at the time of idol immersion wherein the devotees seek his blessings for the well being of their children, elders, job security and prosperity.
However, this time the families prayed to Lord Ganesh for eliminating the virus.
The Ganesh idol of Zareshwar Sarvajanik Ganeshotav was ferried in a rickshaw with only a few people participating in the procession during the idol immersion at Kapileshwarim Lake.
Similarly, each household had very few members during the idol immersion as few fire crackers were used during immersion.
