PANJIM: Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar on Monday dismissed one of the applications filed by two former MGP MLAs Babu Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar seeking cross examination of the witnesses and the petitioner — MGP legislator Sudin Dhavalikar in the disqualification petition.

Both, former MGP members Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar had filed two applications – one seeking cross examination of witnesses and another to allow them to bring additional documents on record.
The Speaker however dismissed their application seeking cross examination of witnesses but no decision was given on the second application.
After appearing before the Speaker, Dhavalikar’s counsel Adv Dhaval Zaveri said, “The hearing was for limited purpose for pronouncing the order on applications filed by the two respondents. Speaker heard MGP MLA’s disqualification matter today (Monday). He rejected one of the applications filed by respondents. The order now awaited is order on merits and order on the application on production of documents.”
Expressing satisfaction over Monday’s decision by the Speaker, Dhavalikar hoped that the Speaker will take correct decision in the matter. The good thing is that the Speaker dismissed their application to cross examine witnesses, Dhavalikar said adding that the disqualification petitions are also likely to be heard by the Supreme Court in the first week of April.
On the other hand, the Speaker parried a question when asked whether he would now deliver judgements or would continue more hearings in the disqualification cases. He also claimed that he had no intimation so far about the matter to be heard by Supreme Court on April 5.
