MAPUSA: The fire services team on Thursday retrieved a body of a Mapusa resident from Mapusa River.

According to Mapusa Police, an unknown man had jumped into the river from Mapusa Bridge on Wednesday morning. The police along with the fire personnel and lifeguards tried to rescue the man but failed.
The body of the deceased identified as 43-year-old Devdutt Gavas was found floating in Mapusa River at around 10.30 am on Thursday which was later retrieved with the help of fire personnel.
Devdutt was a BSNL employee and had reportedly gone missing. His wife had even lodged a missing complaint. Police said the deceased, who was addicted to alcohol, may have ended his life due to mental stress.
