PANJIM: Though the Congress swiftly moved to dissolve the Dabolim block Congress committee after they offered support to BJP’s south Goa candidate Narendra Sawaikar, the party refused to take action against its Dabolim legislator Mauvin Godinho, claiming these are tactics to pave the way to become an unattached MLA.
Godinho’s supporters sprung a surprise on Thursday when some members of Dabolim block and his other supporters assured their support for BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
“We will isolate him and ignore his moves. He is resorting to such tactics so that the party expels him and he automatically becomes unattached MLA,” party spokesman Durgadas Kamat told a press conference on Friday.
The GPCC chief John Fernandes has, however, dissolved the Dabolim block and appointed a new committee with Judas Anacleto De Souza as president.
The party nonetheless claims none of those supporters are from the Congress. “They are Mauvin’s supporters and those of the now-dissolved block had his members… The matter has been brought to the notice of the party high command in Delhi,” he said responding to a question. He alleged BJP had planted its workers showing they were from the Congress party.
