MARGAO: The distortion of historical facts of the Chieftains Revolt in the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ exhibition and insensitivity towards stranded freedom fighters exposes the impudence of the BJP government towards history and freedom fighters, charged Congress Working President and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao.
Reacting to the alleged distortion of history in the display boards at the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ exhibition organised by the Government of Goa in Panjim, he expressed complete agreement with the objection raised by the Chieftains Memorial Trust.

“I strongly condemn the unpardonable act of the government to keep the veteran freedom fighters who were proceeding to Patradevi stranded at Porvorim due to the breakdown of a Kadamba bus,” Alemao said.
He said, “The publicity stunt of BJP government titled ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ has in a way backfired on the BJP and exposed its disrespect towards the National flag and the National Anthem.”
“It reminds me of the India Shining campaign of the then BJP government which eventually resulted in the defeat of the BJP in the 2004 elections,” Alemao remarked.
He demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant take action on all those responsible for the distortion of the history of the Cuncolim Chieftains Revolt.
“Facts will always remain facts and the BJP government will never succeed in distorting history. I urge the government to check official records and not get carried away with narratives set by right-wing political historians,” he stated.
Alemao expressed anger that “the most insensitive BJP government” could not provide proper transport to the freedom fighters whose sacrifice resulted in the liberation of Goa.
“What stopped the government from providing them with Innova cars or electric Kadamba buses?” Alemao questioned.
