Awareness to save frogs held in Margao

MARGAO, MAY 23
Animal lovers in collaboration with the Forest department stepped up its awareness campaign in the Commerical capital to save frogs this monsoon, with the state experiencing pre-monsoon showers in the last two days.
Activists went round the SGPDA fish market this morning and put up posters appealing to the citizens not to kill frogs this season. The fish vendors and daily customers were explained the significance of saving frog in the protection of the environment
Range Forest Officer, Margao, Narayan Dessai said the drive is being carried out to bring about awareness amongst the citizens about the dangers in killing frogs.
He said the fish market has been chosen for the drive since fish eaters may be inclined to consume frog meat as well.
Desai said the ongoing drive will continue till the first monsoon showers, and warned that the Forest department will crack a whip against any violations this time.
