MARGAO: Resentment is beginning to brew in the ruling camp of the Margao Municipal Council. January 12 marks 15 months since Damodar Shirodkar became the Chairperson, and according to the original agreement, as claimed by councillors from the ruling group itself, Damodar Shirodkar was supposed to step down to make way for another BJP councillor from the Fatorda BJP panel to take over the post of Chairperson.
However, councillor Mahesh Amonkar and others from the BJP camp want Shirodkar to continue.

It is pertinent to note that Camilo Barretto, a Councillor from Fatorda, who is also from the BJP camp, had stated that there was an agreement that Shirodkar should step down after completing 15 months, for a councillor from Fatorda to take on the responsibilities of Chairperson.
Councillor Mahesh Amonkar said that Shirodkar is doing a good job, and there is no need to change the chairperson.
“Initially, I was also against Damodar Shirodkar; however, as the days passed, we have witnessed his ability to resolve several issues of the Municipality. Change will create a bad impact on the council’s functioning,” he stated.
He also claimed that there was no agreement as such that Shirodkar should step down after completing 15 months. Echoing Amonkar’s claim, Damodar Shirodkar, the Chairperson, stated that nobody wants him to step down.
