MARGAO: Saligao United shunted out St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 5-3 via tie-breaker to sail into the semi-finals of All Goa 41st HQ-NRB Bandodakr memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Baina Sports Club, at MPT ground, Vasco, on Sunday.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation period.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the Sunday crowd on their toes. Ryan D’Souza put Saligao United in front in the early moments of the game.
However, their joy was shortlived when Agnel Rodrigues neutralized the lead with a neat shot late in the opening session.
The same trend continued after change of ends with the teams showing urgency and with the flurry of attacks Michael Dias found the success for Saligao United soon when he unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the net.
Stung by that setback, St Anthony’s regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp and Sangam Pednekar equalized with a spectacular shot to put his team on equal terms.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Jose Alvares, Agnel Cardozo and Michael
Dias found the success for Saligao United while only Sangam Pednekar converted for St. Anthony’s SC. Sangam Pednekar was adjudged as man-of-the-match.
