VALPOI: Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chairman Ramdas Shirodkar has stated that the newly constructed market complex at Valpoi is ready for use, but the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is yet to hand over the project to the VMC.
“So far, we have not received any information regarding the handing over of the market complex project to the VMC. As soon as GSIDC hands over this completed project, the VMC will complete all formalities to allot shops to vendors,” said Shirodkar.
The chairperson added that letters have already been sent to vendors to pay the tax arrears soon, so that the process of allotting shops to vendors is expedited.
“The market complex consists of 30 shops to be allotted to vendors who had vacated their shops from the old market building during the time of demolition of old building to pave way for the new market complex. Another 30 shops and 27 gaddas will also be auctioned,” he said.
“The basement portion of the building will be used for parking and the fish market is also housed in this complex,” Shirodkar said.
It may be recalled that vendors had recently submitted a memorandum to the VMC, demanding allotment of shops to them in the new market complex without further delay, as they had claimed that over two years had passed since they had vacated their shops from old building.
Meanwhile, GSIDC Vice Chairperson Dr Pramod Sawant recently inspected the Valpoi market complex along with GSIDC officials and assured the vendors to expedite the process to hand over of the project to VMC.
