MARGAO: Underlining the need to protect ‘Goenkarpon’ and ‘Goenkar’, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday asserted that housing colonies and buildings does not amount to development of the villages or any particular area.
Coming out clear on what constitutes development of the villages, the Chief Minister said ‘development is not housing colonies. There are instances of massive housing colonies with 500-1000 flats coming in the village when the village has only 2000 houses. Some of these flats are closed. No one knows who is staying in these colonies”.
Parrikar said he is not against outsiders or migrants coming down into the state, but sent a message that Goa may undergone a change in the next 10 years..
He pointed out that the government would come out with regulations wherein local village panchayat would be given the freedom to take decisions on the housing requirements of the village and the nature of business that will be sustainable in the village.
