PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday assured the people of Agonda-Canacona of regularising their houses built on Comunidade land many decades back.
“If required, the government will amend the Code of Comunidades and Land Revenue Code to protect the houses of Niz Goans and not any slums,” Sawant told Agonda villagers, who met him at his Altinho residence.

The Chief Minister also assured that the government will introduce a bill to amend the Code of Comunidades in the ensuing winter session of the Legislative Assembly, to protect the houses of Goans.
More than 100 affected villagers from Agonda led by Adv Joano Rodrigues met the Chief Minister and requested him to end their woes following demolition notices issued to them. There are over 500 houses mostly belonging to fishermen and toddy tappers situated on Comunidade land.
The South Goa Administrator of Comunidades had served demolition notices to occupants of over 71 houses. Some of the occupants have challenged the demolition notices before the Court.
According to Adv Rodriques, the High Court has remanded back to the South Goa Administrator of Communidade to decide the matter on merits.
Govt to acquire Comunidade land on lease for proposed Film City project
PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) will acquire Comunidade land on lease for establishing proposed Film City project and will also construct much-awaited Convention Centre.
Speaking to mediapersons, Sawant said that the proposed project will benefit people of Goa as it will create jobs and also assist in film creation by Goans. The Comunidade of Loliem had expressed willingness to offer 250 acres of land for the Film City and it faced opposition from some quarters.
Sawant said that though International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is hosted in the State for the last 20 years since 2004, there are no film related projects. But now it has been decided to establish Film City and the site will be identified soon. It will also provide a platform to Goan artistes.
Sawant further said that seven film produced and directed by Goans will be screened at the 54th IFFI starting from November 20. “It’s an honour for the State as Goan films will be screened at the international festival,” he added.
During the nine-day festival, there will be open screenings at Miramar, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao and at Anjuna beach, besides organising other entertaining programmes.
Meanwhile, the government reconstituted the ESG general body) under the chairman ship of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo will be the Vice Chairperson. The other members are MLAs Krishna Salkar and Kedar Naik, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate, Purnanand Chari, Sanjay Shetye, Shefali Vaidya, Sharmad Raiturkar, Shantaram Prabhu, Shiva Baba Naik, Sushant Khedekar, Radhika Kamat Satoskar, Aniceto Fermino Fernandes, Gajanan Tilve, Shubham Chodankar, Deepak Tilve, Humbert Fernandes and Silvester Fernandes.
