MARGAO: Domnic Gaonkar, who is seeking a third term as Zilla Panchayat member from Raia Constituency, which had elected his wife in 2015, claims that the Congress is spreading “false propaganda” against him.

In fact the Congress had approached Domnic to join them and a formal function welcoming him to the party was scheduled late last month. However, Domnic refused to join the Congress and filed his nomination as an independent candidate.
“My supporters asked me not to align with any political party, but contest the elections as an independent and that is what I am doing,” he said. However, he alleged that the Congress camp is spreading rumours that he is backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“I have not taken the support of any political party. I am a people’s candidate and I trust and rely on only the people of the constituency who have faith in me,” he said.
