Kamat further stated that the act of that person could create communal tension and law and order situation.

Kamat demanded that the person be booked and get arrested immediately.

On Thursday, a group of Mapusa residents submitted the municipal chief officer a memorandum objecting to the erection of Shivaji statue near Lohia Garden in Mapusa. They maintained that if anyone wants to erect a statue in a public place in Mapusa then it should be of a leader who is the son of the soil.

They had said that erecting Shivaji statue or statues of personalities from outside the State would dilute the Goan identity.

Meanwhile, the objection raised by some citizens to the erection of Shivaji statue near Lohia Garden at Mapusa has caused uneasiness among the followers of the Maratha warrior.

The followers said the authorities concerned should instruct the group to study the life history of Shivaji before objecting to erecting his statue.

They claimed that the statue of Shivaji was existing at the particular spot near Lohia Garden which is now being beautified by erecting a bigger statue of Shivaji.
