MARGAO: The Benaulim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to impose garbage tax on village households from next year.
At a gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Royla Fernandes, the gram sabha further took a decision that the panchayat should start collecting the waste from the current month and next month to ascertain the practical difficulties faced in garbage collection.
The sarpanch informed that presently garbage is being collected on weekly basis from the households.
A resolution was also taken that the village panchayat carry out a survey/drive to identify Lamanis staying and conducting business illegally in the village. The sarpanch has promised to carry out such an inspection.
The gram sabha also resolved that the panchayat should carry our re-assessment of house tax in village as the same has not been carried out for the past many years. The panchayat members have been authorised by gram sabha to decide on same after holding a special body meeting and discuss the issue.
Villagers also expressed need to regulate migrants staying in Benaulim in the wake of rising incidents of thefts. The panchayat members sought the cooperation of villagers to identify migrants in village.
In order to monitor dumping of waste the gram sabha moved a proposal to install CCVT camera at various locations.
