VASCO: With some owners of the 32 structures in Vasco disputing they are “dangerous”, the municipal chief officer is waiting the stability report from Goa Engineering College to demolish them.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said, “One or two building owners have told us that they do not have the machinery to undertake the demolition work. They have requested municipality to demolish the old structure and they are ready to pay the cost to the municipality.”
“However, four or five owners of the old identified structures have replied to us stating that their structures are stable and do not require demolition. I have asked these owners to bring stability certificates stating that their structures do not pose any danger,” Fernandes said.
When asked about the status of stability test of the old structures of MMC to be undertaken by Goa Engineering college students, the chief officer replied that some weeks ago he had written to the Goa Engineering College to undertake stability test of the old structures of MMC and then submit the report to MMC. “But the Goa Engineering College has informed that it does not have the machinery to undertake the stability test. So, I am waiting for their next reply,” Fernandes said.
Last month, a concrete slab of the old structure opposite Vasco police station had fallen on a car. Since no one was inside, there were casualties.
Taking the matter seriously, the chief officer had issued demolition notices to 32 old structures which were identified as a dangerous by municipality.
