MARGAO: St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim defeated Cuncolim Union 1-0 goal to move into the semi-finals of the 3rd St Sebastian Union Club inter-village football tournament organized by St Sebastian Union Club, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Saturday.
In the first half, the teams dominated but it was St Sebastian Union Club who took the lead in the eighth minute through Joel Fernandes off an assist by Joaquim Ferrao.
Cuncolim Union tried to regroup and had a golden opportunity to level terms in the 16th minute but Daulat Dessai’s effort hit the crossbar.
In the 21st minute, Daulat showed intent yet again but the rival defenders left him frustrated.
Post resumption, St Sebastian were defensive and kept the Cuncolim strikers at bay.
In the 40th minute, Daulat made a daunting run into the rival territory but his fierce shot was blocked by the rival custodian.
Subsequently, in the 53rd minute, St Sebastian could have doubled their advantage but Jaison Pereira’s header missed the target narrowly.
