MARGAO: Taking serious note of the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee physician at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, doctors at South Goa District Hospital (Hospicio) staged a protest on Saturday to express their solidarity while ensuring that medical services were not disrupted.

In the morning, several doctors at Hospicio gathered to express their solidarity and stated that they were deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of the postgraduate trainee physician in Kolkata. They emphasized the necessity for greater protection and safety measures for medical professionals.
“We are bound by conduct rules, but we expressed our solidarity without interrupting medical services at the hospital,” said Dr Edward D’Melo. He highlighted the importance of improving workplace security, noting that such incidents could happen anywhere.
Dr D’Melo also pointed out that healthcare workers often operate in hostile and stressful environments, underscoring the need for robust security mechanisms to ensure their safety.
