Old Goa Villagers Criticize Goa Tourism Development Corporation for Excluding Them in PRASAD Project Planning

PANJIM: Villagers of Old Goa on Thursday stated that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation did not take the residents into confidence while finalizing the implementation of PRASAD project. They added that planning was done first and the discussion was held later.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte had claimed that the Basilica and Archdiocese representatives were present for the various meetings. But he admitted that the project filed was not submitted to the panchayat for approval. The Archdiocese on Wednesday denied that they had given their consent for the particular project.

Glean Cabral, resident of Old Goa said that, “No plan from the tourism department came up for discussion before the Gram Sabha. It was we who forced the panchayat to bring the issue before the Gram Sabha. They had no discussed the building plan, they had only discussed about the amenities. In fact the technical team denied that any building was to come up. It is under consideration they said. They spoke only about amenities.”

“Earlier they had planned a massive ground plus two structure, whom did they consult when they did this? So they have planned first and then indulged in discussions. This government does not take the people into confidence. They plan as they like. And after the people oppose, they say this cannot be done,” Glean stated.
