Exorbitant electricity bills with new digital meter

On March 7, 2019, the Electricity Department installed a new digital meter in my house, replacing the old one which was running smoothly for years.
I have recently received a very high electricity bill amounting to Rs 1,963 (for the period from March 7 to 6 May 6, 61 days, units consumers 698) and of Rs 1,483 (for the period May 6 to June 15, 40 days, units consumed 505) both of which I have already paid on time. These bills are almost double the amounts I usually used to pay.
Only two people are residing in this house, I and my wife. Hence we do take utmost care in consuming less energy, except in two hot months of summer, as you can verify from your records.
As a good disciplinarian and record keeper, I have my own records dating back to the year 1997 of all electricity bills paid to the department, always on time.
Even the monthly bill (billed for a period of 30 to 40 days) never showed we are consuming 300 units or little more, except when both our children with their families spent some three weeks with us during Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019. To add, the old meter never gave us any trouble and was always functioning accurately for so many years.
Hence, I request the Electricity Department to replace the digital meter which, I feel, is running very rapidly or rectify the same faulty meter. I look forward to a prompt response in this regard.
