PANJIM: Panjim police have arrested five persons, including the aunt of the one-month-old baby girl who was kidnapped on Thursday from government quarters Altinho, Panjim.
The five arrested persons are Suman Anand (45) of Porvorim, Neetu Singh (29) native of Bangalore, Mausina Khan (38) of Taleigao, Govind Kumar Sharma (26) of Porvorim and Ramchandra More (46) of Candolim. They have been arrested by Panjim police under sections 8 (1) (A), 8(2), (4), (9), (16) of Goa Children’s Act.
Briefing the media, Superintendent of Police, North Goa, Umesh Gaonkar said there is a conspiracy between four of the accused which will be investigated.
“This is a very serious matter of human trafficking that one-month-old child has been abducted,” Gaonkar said.
Police said that Mausina, who is the sister of the child’s mother and the mastermind behind the kidnapping, hatched the conspiracy along with Suman. Mausina initially and kept Neetu at the residence of her sister in Altinho. Accordingly, when the girl’s mother Shakira Bhagwan was out of the house, Suman was informed through a message that she can pick the baby.
Police said, Suman and Neetu picked up the baby from the Altinho and gave her to More who claims he has adopted the baby. But police say there are no legal adoption formalities carried out.
Suman claims to be from an NGO based in Delhi, but Panjim police could not find any registration details of the said NGO. Mausina is working with the electricity department as a junior engineer in Panjim.
