New rates of VAT to be effective from today

The government of Goa, as proposed in the Budget for 2010-11, has amended the VAT rates of certain commodities effective from May 5, 2010. The official notifications have been issued, which will, be published in the Official Gazette on May 5.
The amended rates will, therefore, be effective from May 5, as follows: All the commodities, other than declared goods, which are taxable at 4% till May 4, shall be taxable at 5% from May 5, 2010; country liquor, which is taxable at 10% till today, will be taxable at 5% from May 5, 2010; and declared goods will continue to be taxable at 4% but under separate entry No. 16 of Schedule “C”.
For any more details, the dealers may contact the Commercial Tax Officers at ward offices at Panjim, Ponda, Mapusa, Bicholim, Vasco, Margao and Curchorem or at Headquarters, says a press release.
