VALPOI: Opposition to the proposed inclusion of the Mhadei wildlife sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve Zone (TRZ) is growing among panchayats in Sattari taluka.
The panchayats in Sattari taluka have been discussing the issue at length during their respective gram sabha meetings and have unanimously passed resolutions, strongly opposing the inclusion of their panchayats area in the TRZ.
“Mauxi panchayat is already set to organise a big awareness rally on February 17, to oppose tooth and nail the inclusion of their panchayat area in the TRZ. This resolution was passed unanimously in the gram sabha, chaired by Mauxi Sarpanch Vithoba Sawant,” informed Udai Sawant of Coporde-Sattari.
“If the central government’s proposal to include panchayats in the TRZ is implemented, hundreds of families and hundreds of farmers will be severely affected. Residents will never allow this to happen,” Sawant added.
Incidentally, a resolution by Demu Goankar opposing the TRZ was also unanimously passed in the gram sabha of Nagargao panchayat, which was chaired by Sarpanch Waman Dessai.
Similar resolutions have also been passed at the gram sabha meetings in the villages of Thane, Sanvordem, Morllem and Birondem in Sattari taluka.
