SANGUEM: In Goa’s Sanguem Taluka a vital communication link for the rural commuters is in bad shape. The bridge connecting Vorcotto to Piraraj is in a dangerous condition. The side railing and pillars of the bridge are reportedly cracked and need urgent repairs or a new bridge has to be built urgently.
The bridge was constructed a long time ago during Sanguem MLA Pandu Naik’s tenure and over the years, it has deteriorated significantly. The greatest danger on the single lane bridge is to school students and pedestrians who use the bridge. When a four wheeler passes on the bridge, there is hardly an place for pedestrians who have to be very careful.

Citizens said that the bridge has holes in the middle, some of which have been temporarily patched with cement, but some remain visible, posing a serious risk. Pedestrians are forced to stand while holding onto the railing.
The bridge is so narrow that only one car can pass at a time, leaving no no space for a two wheeler, The railings are cracked, with rods exposed, making them unsafe for support. Many villagers, including school students cross this bridge daily.
Although MLA Subhash Phal Desai recently laid the foundation stone for a new retaining wall adjacent to the bridge, the real issue remains unaddressed. A new bridge is the only permanent solution, but until then, urgent repairs are necessary to ensure safety.
