PANJIM: Congress legislator Aleixo Reginald Lourenco expressed the need to expedite the judicial process in the State so that the convictions can be granted to the criminals who contribute for deteriorating law and order situation.
He demanded to upgrade infrastructure for securing convictions which also includes a full time President for the Goa Children’s Court.
“Law and order has deteriorated so much…whoever involved in the crimes should be convicted. For this infrastructure should be in place,” he said speaking on the Thanks giving motion for the Governor’s address on the floor of the House.
He stressed urgent need for setting up Victims Advisory Cell, proper rehabilitation to victims and setting up infrastructure for DNA testing, etc. “We are accountable for the rising crimes. We need to ensure safety and that crimes don’t happen,” Lourenco added.
Speaking on the mining crisis, the legislator said that the Rs 35,000 crores loss be recovered and that natural resources be preserved for posterity. He said that alternative modes be adopted for revenue generation and employment to people.
Another Congress leader Mauvin Godinho suggested upgrading tourism which will in turn improve economy of the State, also as the government is currently facing financial crisis due to mining ban. “Now we will be depending more on tourism. Let us create revenue model … legal mining will start … The additional revenue from the mining can then be used for creating world class infrastructure,” he said.
