4 aspirants in fray for Cong ticket

PANJIM: The Congress party has pulled up its sleeves to gear up for the Panaji constituency by-elections, with four aspirants including Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado, applying for the party ticket on Tuesday.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee had last week invited applications from prospective candidates for the by-elections. Tuesday was the last day for filing the applications before general secretary Altinho Gomes.
The four aspirants include Furtado, Congress general secretary Arthur Sequeira, former chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) Ezilda Sapeco and Dominic Savio Fernandes.
“We have received four applications for the ticket. The same will be placed before the Congress Pradesh Election Committee chaired by Luizinho Faleiro for short listing,” Gomes told media persons. He said that the short-listed names would be submitted to party High Command for finalization of the candidate.
Furtado was the first aspirant to apply Tuesday morning along with a fee of Rs 10,000. Furtado was denied the ticket for the March 2012 elections.
