PANJIM: Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Friday presented its first lot of ‘grassroot’ entrepreneurs which they have trained with the help of I-Create India, a pan India organisation working in the area of grass-root level entrepreneurship development.

The ladies led by Chaya Pai Khot, wife of Canacona MLA Vijay Pai Khot drew up business plans as part of the five-day training the trainers’ workshops on October 31. The first workshop was held to teach the concepts of entrepreneurship and the second to train the participants to become trainers and reach out to other members in their respective self-help groups and pass on this knowledge to them.

At the end of the workshop, the 30 members (in five groups of six each) came up with a business plan as part of a business plan competition and prizes were given to the best three plans.

Speaking to the press Chaya Pai Khot said that they had come up with a commercially viable old age home for Canacona as they felt it would help the old from Canacona to remain close to home while being taken care off. “Aged people are sent to old age homes in Salcete and such areas. There is no old age home in Canacona. We feel that the aged should have the feeling of being at home,” Pai Khot said.

The other ideas that came up were to start a pure veg restaurant in Canacona, which interestingly has no pure vegetarian restaurants, and a facility to supply disposable plates to hotels and shacks as most tourism related businesses have to bring their requirements from outside.

I-Create India will hold another five day training programme where people who are interested in helping entrepreneurship at grassroot level (teachers, HR trainers, retired professionals, community leaders, bankers, entrepreneurs) can get trained to become master trainers of I-Create India. The workshop will be held from February 13-17, from 9.30 am to 5 pm. The training is free.

The GCCI along with I-Create India will also in future conduct aspiring entrepreneurs workshops in different villages of Goa.
