PANJIM: Government has asked all officers authorised to use government vehicles to allow deduction of Rs 500 per month from their salary, if they use the vehicles for private purpose, and fuel used by them should not exceed sanctioned quota.
“The secretaries, heads of departments and other officers authorized under Rule 43 are permitted to use the vehicle for private purposes also, if they so desires, subject to the condition that an amount of Rs 500 per month is compulsorily deducted from their salary and fuel should not exceed quota allotted/sanctioned.
Further, if the fuel quota is exhausted that should not be an excuse for not performing official journeys,” reads the order by under secretary, Ajit Pawaskar.
It is common to see Government vehicles ferrying families of officials to the market and schools or on Sundays and holidays for outings.
