Dengue scare: CHC fumigates Valpoi

VALPOI: The Community Health Centre, Valpoi is trying hard to prevent any positive cases of vector borne disease. From awareness programme to fumigation in all schools, the main focus is to destroy the tiniest of breeding spots, said the health officials.
After one suspected death of dengue in Vasco, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had ordered to have fogging at all the schools and colleges in State.
Health officer of CHC Valpoi Dr Gajanan Naik said that as we received a order from our director, we have started fogging in and around the schools and colleges premises which comes under the jurisdiction of CHC Valpoi. “Till now we have completed 29 schools which also include Aganwadis, and remaining more five schools are pending which will be done in two days. Although, no positive cases have been reported, this is a preventive measure taken by Health Department in Valpoi. If anyone gets fever then he should consult doctor and gets himself tested for vector borne disease.”
He further appealed to public to identify the mosquito breeding site and destroy it.
“Since many mosquitoes breed in standing water, source reduction can be as simple as emptying water from containers around the home. Mosquito breeding grounds can be eliminated at home by removing unused plastic pools, old tires, or buckets regularly,” Dr Naik added.
