NAVELIM: United Club of Benaulim defeated Betalbatim SC 4-1 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Late Jose Bento Furtado Memorial Trophy, played at Rosary ground Navelim, on Tuesday.
In the tenth minute, Osbourne Fernandes of Benaulim took control of the ball from Declan Carvalho and dribbled Betalbatim defender Frazier Rogtao and shot from close range but Jonathan Miranda, keeper of Betalbatim, pushed away the ball to safety.
Oliver D’Souza, striker of Betalbatim, tried a long range-shot in the 39th minute but to his dismay Sukitesh Mandrekar, keeper of Benaulim, saved it with ease.
In the tie-breaker United Club of Benaulim netted through Osbern Fernandes, Joel Fernandes, Rizwan Ratos and Declan Carvalho, while for Betalbatim SC only Oliver D’Souza scored.
United Club of Benaulim will meet the winners of CRC Chinchinim and Navelim Villagers Union in the quarter-finals on October 30.
