MAPUSA: Dunes SC came from a goal down to hold Candolim SC to a 2-2 draw in a GFA’s First Division league match at Duler stadium here, on Saturday.
In the very first minute Dunes Under-20 Dalwin Lobo collected a pass from his skipper, moved ahead on the left flank and sent a deadly low cross in the goal area but to the dismay of his teammates Leslee Britto tapped the ball over the crossbar.
It took just three minutes for Dunes to surge ahead. Skipper Shashank Ashwekar let go a 30-yard stinging shot which crashed into the far corner of Candolim goal.
Candolim came back strongly from the goal and almost equalized in the 5th minute. Shankar Shetye squared to Clinton Niasso whose strike at the goal deflected off a Dunes defender for a corner.
In the 14th minute, following a counter attack, Candolim’s Clinton Niasso sent an intelligent pass to his unmarked partner Shankar Shetye, who coolly tapped the ball in for the equaliser.
Both teams had an opportunity each to further increase their lead. A timely clearance by Dunes defender Jayesh Chopdekar denied Sahil Naik from scoring and at the other end, Candolim’s stopper back Vivek Kanvlekar thwarted Dunes’ Anthony Lobo in a one-on-one situation.
In the first half added time, Candolim were awarded a free-kick outside the penalty box and Clinton Niasso brilliantly curled the ball past the Dunes defensive wall into the goal.
Just five minutes into the second session Dunes were awarded a penalty after Candolim’s Aryan Sawant unfairly tackled Dunes Anthony Lobo inside the 18-yard box, prompting referee Aaron to point to the dreaded spot.
Shashank Ashwekar stepped forward and scored to make it 2-2.
At Salvador do Mundo ground, St Anthony’s SC, Marna registered a 2-1 victory over AA de Moira in another match. All goals were scored in the second session.
Anthem Singh scored for Moira. Dalesh Pednekar and Pushparaj Mandrejar netted for Marna.
