Municipalities instructed to ensure enforcement of code of conduct

PANJIM: Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) Tariq Thomas has issued orders to the urban local bodies to ensure enforcement of the model code of conduct in view of the Lok Sabha (LS) elections.
In a letter issued on Monday to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Commissioner and Chief Officers of all the Municipal Councils in the state, the DMA directed them to immediately ensure that action is taken as per directions and instructions of the Election Commission of India.
The DMA directed the CCP Commissioner and the Municipal Council COs to submit a report on the preliminary action taken, to his office on Monday evening. 
He further stated “A detailed report in this regard should be sent to this office by 3 pm on March 11, 2019 in a hard copy and also through email. This should be followed by weekly action/compliance report to be sent to this office every Monday till conclusion of the election process.”
The Chief Election Commissioner of India on Sunday announced the dates to the LS which will be held in seven phases across the country between April 11 and May 19 and counting to be held on May 23.
Lok Sabha elections as well as bypolls to the three Assembly constituencies in Goa will be held on April 23. However, the model code of conduct will be in implementation until May 23, 2019.
