MARGAO: Since the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 10 till April 30, the 18 police stations in South Goa, besides seizing 10,337 litres of alcohol worth around Rs 30,06,480 in 85 raids, also seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 22,54,630.
The Canacona Police while raiding liquor palace at Nagorcem on March 28, seized unaccounted cash of Rs 17,530 and handed over the same to the Excise Department for further action.
Similarly, the Static Surveillance Team at Dabolim airport seized Rs 22,37,100 from various people on two separate days and handed over the unaccounted money to the Income Tax Department for further action.
On March 28, the team seized Rs 11,80,000 and on April 6, it seized Rs 10,57,100. Besides, the Static Surveillance Team at Shiroda seized 6 water tanks worth Rs 16,496 and the Fatorda Police seized home and electronic appliances worth Rs 5,12,655.
As far as alcohol is concerned, the highest seizure was at the four police stations namely Quepem, Curchorem, Sanguem and Canacona coming under Quepem Division where altogether 20 raids were conducted in which 6,957 litres of alcohol worth Rs 23,98,566 was seized.
This was followed by the Margao Division consisting of Margao Town, Maina Curtorim, Colva, Cuncolim and Fatorda police stations where in 17 raids they seized 1,486 litres of alcohol worth Rs 2,66,805. While Ponda and Collem police stations coming under Ponda Division seized 1,177 litres of alcohol worth Rs. 1,80,156 in raids. The least amount was by the Vasco Division having Vasco, Verna, Mormugao, Railway police stations who conducted 12 raids to seize 310 litres of alcohol worth Rs 64,761. Incidentally, the Dabolim airport police station did not conduct any such raid.
While Konkan Railway Police Stations seized 298 litres of liquor worth Rs 51,162 in 14 raids, the Static Surveillance Team at Vasco Railway Station conducted 13 raids to seize 107 litres of alcohol worth Rs 45,030.
Interestingly, the highest amount of seizure was done by Canacona Police Station which in 15 raids seized 5,654 litres of alcohol worth Rs 21,67,323, while Mormugao Police Station managed to seize 33 litres of alcohol worth Rs 5,585 in two raids.
During the same period, in 19 raids, the police seized 2.044 kg of narcotics worth Rs 7,01,200 with the Ponda Police Station seizing 271 gms of narcotics worth Rs 3.70 lakh in 2 raids. Vasco Division conducted 8 raids to seize 1.3 kg of narcotics worth Rs 2.05 lakh followed by Margao Division where in 7 raids 322 gms of narcotics worth Rs 76,200 was seized and Quepem division in 5 raids managed to seize 148 gms worth Rs 50,000.
