“The chief officers are responsible for proper utilisation of funds by taking the chairpersons and councillors into confidence, thereby implementing the projects seamlessly. The chief officers therefore need to ensure that the guidelines issued by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) are strictly implemented and enforced. A circular to this effect will be issued soon,” Rane said.

Meanwhile, a committee has been constituted by the DMA for project execution and management. The committee will ensure that the projects are completed within the given time-line and that the concerned chief officers will be held accountable for time-bound implementation of the projects in coordination with the Directorate of Municipal Administration and Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).

The Minister has warned that action will be initiated against the chief officers if they do not comply with the directions issued by both — Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Ministry for Urban Development.
