PORIEM: Responding to demands for a better health care facility in remote parts of Sattari Taluka, the State government has approved a 12-bedded hospital in Poriem, Sattari.
There has been a strong demand for a hospital to cater to the needs of people in Keri, Morlem, Poriem and Honda villages with frequent requests put before the local MLA and former chief minister Pratapsing Rane.
In the absence of health facilities in these areas, people have been forced to travel 20 km to visit the Sanquelim Primary Health Center. With the government approving a 12-bedded Hospital in Poriem, it would benefit around 40,000 people in Keri, Morlem, Poriem and Honda villages.
“The proposal had been moved before the government which has sanctioned a 12-bedded hospital in Poriem. The hospital will be commissioned on a priority as it will benefit the rural areas of Keri, Morlem, Poriem and Honda besides a part of Pissurlem,” Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.
“The health department has decided to provide health care at the doorsteps of people and many activities are being imitated in this regard,” Vishwajit added.
Local MLA Pratapsing Rane welcomed the government’s decision to set up a 12-bedded hospital in Poriem, as it had been a long pending demand of people in the area.
“Once this hospital is set up in Poriem, it will provide health facilities to people within a radius of 7 kms, which would cover four Panchayat,” Pratapsing said.
It is instructive that though Pratapsing Rane has been representing Poriem constituency for decades in the Goa Assembly, only now a hospital has been sanction for that area.
