VASCO: The NGO Savera has criticised the police for failing to arrest the accused in the Mangor hill sword attack case. The NGO has accused the police of deliberately ignoring the whereabouts of the accused and helping him evade arrest.
Savera member Tara Kerkar said that the victim Mohmmad Ishaan, who is bed ridden after the incident, and his family are living in fear as the accused are still at large. “The victim can be attacked again by the accused. His family and his sisters don’t feel secure at home. The police however even after knowing his location have failed to nab him,” Tara alleged.
“The fact that he attacked a youth in broad daylight only suggests that he has contacts with police. Now we hear that he is applying for anticipatory bail,” Tara said.
One of the sisters of the victim said that they are worried for their security and also said that they have no locals supporting them now. The NGO has written to the DGP and SP of South regarding the case and also asking for some police to be designated at the house of the victim.
It may be recalled that three men allegedly attempted to murder Ishaan from Mangor hill with a sword. One Ismail, Navaz and another person came to the house of Shanu on a scooter, told him to come out and later allegedly attacked him with swords inflicting serious injuries. The witness’ account described that Kabbu allegedly assaulted Shanu, who started bleeding profusely and later tried to save himself by entering a retail shop nearby. Kabbu entered the shop and further assaulted the victim. The three, who later fled from the scene, are absconding.
It has been a week since the incident, but the Police haven’t arrested any of the three accused in the case.
