MARGAO: The Quepem Municipal Council has unanimously opposed the industrial estate shown in the Regional Plan 2021 in Quepem area.
The QMC and other stakeholders had a joint meet under the leadership of MLA Babu Kavalekar during the week to discuss the anomalies of the RP-2021. The Additional Town Planner of Quepem Diniz has been appointed as the consultant and the Quepem Council has demanded that the Quepem market area be changed into 200 FSI in the Regional Plan ODP 2021.
Along with Quepem MLA, QMC Chairperson Filu D’Costa, Dayesh Naik, Deepali Naik and other council members were present for the meeting. The Regional Plan 2021 has been kept open by the TCP for suggestions.
The meeting at QMC was aimed at taking suggestions from the councillors on the present draft of the RP-2021. The QMC members at the meet took strong objections to the marked industrial estate in Quepem. “Quital already has a notified Industrial Estate and Quepem does not want any more estates,” said the Council.
MLA Kavalekar informed that the Additional Town Planner Diniz has been appointed as consultant and has urged the people to file their suggestions and objections in a month’s time. “There is a major error in the Quepem ODP of RP-2021 wherein the Quepem market FSI which was earlier 150 has been reduced to 100 which, in fact, had to be increased in this plan,” he said.
“For Quepem bus stand, land has been acquired in Karavi. But we don’t have land for expansion of the Quepem market. If we do not get land for market then there is no relevance to calling the area a commercial zone,” said Kavlekar.
“It is for this reason we are planning to have yet another meet and take suggestions of the councillors. Park for children, making provisions in the ODP for shifting the Petrol pump out of town and other issues will be discussed at the meet,” he added.
Chairperson Filu D’Costa while raising the issue of the garbage treatment plant of Quepem informed the gathering that the outstanding dues of the contractor to the tune of over Rs 2.5 lakh haven’t been paid yet.
