Five injured after car crashes into tourist bus on ghat roads in Mollem

PONDA: Five people, including a minor, were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with an interstate tourist sleeper bus at Nandran-Mollem, at around 7.30 am on Tuesday. The police suspect that the accident occurred because the driver of the car fell asleep.

The driver Muhammad Ghous, 40, and passengers Subani, 14, Ruksana, 40, and Nasruddin, 50, were sent to the health center at Pillay-Tisk for treatment.  The Collem police said that the driver Mohammad was badly injured and had likely fractured both his legs. 

All the injured crash victims were later shifted to 

Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim. 

The four-wheeler was proceeding towards Belgaum while the bus carrying passengers was travelling from Bangalore to Goa. At a sharp turn at Nandran, Mollem, the car crashed into the bus. The bus driver said he was in his lane and even tried his best to avoid the collision, but there was no space to swerve away and the car hit the bus.  He said the bus passengers took part in the rescue operation and helped the occupants trapped inside the car. The car was badly damaged, with its front portion completely mangled .

The occupants of the car are from Hubli, Karnataka, and had visited a relatives’ house at Margao for a family function. They were returning to Hubli early on Tuesday morning when the accident took place.
