PONDA: Plans to install surveillance cameras in Ponda city under the PPP model have been scrapped due to a halt in mining operations in the State.
According to information, there were plans to install about 16 CCTV cameras in the city, which would have helped monitor traffic movement and also keep an eye on traffic violators.
Sources informed that the cost to install CCTV cameras would have been about Rs 1 crore. Private firms had come forward to fund the project. However, the project will now be undertaken by the State government in its Ponda city traffic master plan.
“Due to mining closure, some companies which had earlier expressed its support are now reluctant to fund the project. However, the project will be undertaken in the traffic master plan in due course of time,” informed Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar.
