PANJIM: Nilesh Parsekar’s brilliant knock off 66 helped PWD beat Directorate of Settlement and Land Records (DSLR) by 61 runs to reach the semi-finals of Civil Services cricket tournament at SAG ground, Campal, here.
Electing to bat first, PWD scored 158/6 in the stipulated 18 overs. Nilesh Parsekar hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 41-ball innings. Someshwar Naik Adpaikar 28 and Haresh Kakodkar 16 not out were the other top scorers. DSLR’s Patric was the pick of the bowlers picking 3/32, while Sandeep took 2/27 and Pramod 1/36.
Needing 159 to reach the semis at a run rate of 8.83 runs per over, DSLR got off to a sedate start putting on 50 for the loss of just one wicket in nine overs. However the dismissal of Hiroo 23 (26 balls) stumped splendidly by wicketkeeper Nilesh Parsekar off PWD skipper Umesh Naik and the pressure to cope up with the ever increasing run rate, needing 109 off the remaining 9 overs, DSLR batsmen faltered in their bid going for big hits and were bundled out for 97 in 16.4 overs, with only Sagar (11) and Sandeep (13) making notable contributions with the bat. Umesh Naik was the pick of the bowlers with 3/14 and was ably supported by Viraj Patil 2/14, Ashvek Malgaonkar 1/16, Naresh Parsekar 1/8 and Haresh Kakodkar 1/6.
Nilesh Parsekar was adjudged man-of-the-match for his stellar performance. PWD now face Directorate of Agriculture in the semi-finals on March 23 at SAG ground, Campal.
