Patient dies after truck hits his ambulance

PORVORIM: A patient died when a truck dashed against an ambulance on Sunday evening at Gaunswado, Mapusa. According to Mapusa police, an ambulance of Bicholim Urban Health centre was on its way to Bambolim to admit three patients in GMC hospital and on reaching Gaunwado junction, it was hit by an oncoming truck. 
At the time of the accident, the truck was proceeding towards Kharaswada. Prior to hitting the ambulance, the truck had hit an oncoming swift car, police said. 
The ambulance was carrying Narayan Parab, Ms Satyawati Gawas and Nagesh Salelkar. Patient Narayan Parab, aged 78, died on the spot while the ambulance driver Anant Mandrekar, his assistant Deepak Shetye and the remaining patients suffered injuries. 
Mapusa police have arrested the truck driver Ravi Tushar for rash and negligent driving.
