PANJIM: Stating there is a need for a ‘course correction’ by the BJP following the Assembly election results in five States, Goa Forward Party (GFP), an ally of the BJP in the State on Wednesday said that the people of Goa need to adopt the Telangana model, where a regional political party emerged victorious with a thumping majority.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi swept the Telangana Assembly elections winning 88 seats out of 119.
Speaking to media persons, GFP president and Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai said this is a victory of regionalism. “It is a landslide victory for a regional political outfit. It is a victory of regionalism which I also aspire,” he said and added, “So I feel that Goans should also look at Telangana model where it is completely about regionalistic sentiments.”
Sardesai, whose party won three of the four Assembly seats it contested in 2017 polls, said that the TRS victory has given a boost to regional parties across the country. “Telangana Rashtra Samithi had adopted a very good system ensuring time-bound services to the people. More so they kept giving daily dose of regionalistic sentiments,” he stated.
Speaking on the results in general, Sardesai said they are a wake-up call to the Narendra Modi-led government and that it would have to be more in touch with the aspirations of the people
“The Congress has made a comeback and to some extent there is a need for a course correction in case if it felt that the people’s aspirations are not being met through government policies,” he said while congratulating Rahul Gandhi for the victory.
The GFP leader asserted that these were the semi-finals and BJP will have to prepare itself better for the finals.
