PANJIM: The Goa government has directed all casinos – onshore and offshore – to shut operations for 24 hours on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
“Department of Home (General) has declared dry day on October 2, 2018 to pay homage and respect to Father of the nation. All the casino shall stop the operation of the casinos on October 2, 2018 from 12 midnight to 12 midnight (24 hours),” the order issued on Thursday states. The BJP-led government through a cabinet decision in 2014 had decided to keep casinos closed for 24 hours on October 2, which is observed as dry day.
The Office of the Commissioner of Excise has also asked all liquor vendors to remain closed on that day.
