VALPOI: Goa may have become the first State in the country to complete Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of “Har Ghar Jal Yojana” with 100 per cent tap water connections in rural areas, but the residents of Majikwada of Budruk Karmali village in Valpoi constituency claim that they have been left without tap water for the last three decades.

Stating that there are 20 houses in this ward, the locals complained of not receiving water despite getting the tap connections several decades ago.
The women from Majikwada claimed that they are forced to visit the spring located in the hilly area daily to fetch water for the domestic purpose. The women further complained that they have to walk one or two hours daily to fetch spring water.
Recently, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had said the government has provided the tap water connections to all houses. In Majikwada, water taps have run dry for the past several years, claimed Sulochana Gaonkar, a local.
Another woman Laxmi Gaonkar complained that she is forced to walk daily for two hours to the hilly area to fetch spring water for daily use.
“We held many morchas at the Valpoi Water Supply Department but the officials have not taken any action till date. We had complained to the local panchayat regarding the tap water problem and had requested it to solve the problem, but the panchayat has failed to solve our problem. Now, we demand that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant solve our tap water problem,” said Vanita Paryekar, another local.
