PANJIM: Within less than 10 days after reduction in road tax, Government revenue from vehicles registration witnessed whopping 140 per cent rise compared to the similar period in September. The vehicle purchase also saw jump of nearly 120 per cent.
State government through an Ordinance slashed road tax by 50 per cent to help the struggling auto industry. The decision came into effect from October 18.
As per information provided by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho a total of 2,388 vehicles, including 1,555 two-wheelers and 833 four-wheelers were sold in the State from October 18 to 26.
While for the similar period in September, total 1,088 vehicles — 808 two-wheelers and 280 four-wheelers, were sold.
The total revenue generated from road tax is around Rs 4,20,65,098 while GST collection was Rs 15,99,75,783. The total revenue collected was Rs 20,20,40,881.
An amount of Rs 3,63,52,469 was collected as road tax from four-wheelers and the GST was Rs 13,55,40,786.
As far as two-wheelers are concerned, the road tax collection was Rs 57,12,629 while GST was Rs 2,44,34,997.
During the similar period in September, the total revenue generation was of Rs 8,39,51,608 which included Rs 2,53,99,264 from road tax and Rs 5,85,52,344 from GST collection.
“The analysis is based on the sales figures provided by the respective dealers,” minister said.
Opposition had slammed the government’s move to slash road tax alleging that the decision will benefit only the auto dealers with State facing financial loss.
Further, Godinho said that the vehicles which are registered outside Goa will have to re-register in the State failing which action under Motor Vehicle Act would be initiated.
